What is the Avy App?

Avy is a free mobile app for avalanche forecasts, weather forecasts, weather station data and field observations. It was built by the Friends of the Northwest Avalanche Center and is shared by avalanche centers across the country, including the Crested Butte Avalanche Center.

Pick the CBAC and your zone, and today's forecast is a tap away. It's the same forecast you'll find on this website, laid out for your phone.

Trip planning in one place

The avalanche forecast, weather forecast, weather stations and recent observations for your zone, with collapsible sections so there's less scrolling.

Works without signal

Forecasts, weather data and observations you've already opened stay on your phone, so you can still read them when you lose service.

Submit observations

Send what you see in the field straight to our forecasters. If you're offline, it uploads automatically when you're back in service.

Weather station data

Pick a station and quickly see the wind, temperature and snow numbers you need before heading out.

How to get started

  1. Download the app. Get Avy from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Search for "Avy: Avalanche & Weather Info".
  2. Choose Crested Butte. Select the Crested Butte Avalanche Center (CBAC), then the Northwest or Southeast Mountains zone.
  3. Load the forecast before you go. Open the forecast and weather while you still have signal, at home or at the trailhead, so they're saved for offline use.
  4. Share what you see. Submit an observation from the field. Your reports help us write a more accurate forecast.

Prefer your browser? The full forecast is always on our forecast page, and you can submit observations here on the website too.
